We're very glad that you are choosing EFT as your training provider. As over eight hundred students before you can attest, it's a decision you won't regret, and one that will provide a sound foundation for your aviation ambitions - whatever they may be.

Application process

By now, we're sure you have already seen that EFT is a little different to other training providers. We process all student applications online, and we don't send you masses of paperwork, lenghty contracts and application forms. However, although you're applying online, you and EFT are entering into a legal, contractual agreement - the "EFT Training Agreement". The training agreement serves the purpose of ensuring your continuity of training and timely progression through the course, as well as protecting our interests. It is absolutely vital that you read the agreement below in full before proceeding with your application or submitting any of your information. We recommend that you print it for your own reference. If you disagree with any of the terms, our stubborn computer will refuse to process your application, although we will of course discuss and clarify your concerns on the phone or in writing if you find any terms to be unclear (just contact us). Also, please read the Terms of Use of this web site.

EFT Training Agreement (ETA)
UPDATED 08/14/2009

This training agreement is made between European Flight Training ("us") and the applicant / student ("you"). Provided that you meet the criteria for admission, which EFT will assess after you submit your application, you are hereby enrolled in the JAA flight training programme which you select on the application form.

Completion Time. Expected course completion times and flight times are based on the current minimum requirements as set by the CAA/JAA/FAA for certifications and ratings. EFT has an excellent track record of completing courses on time, but cannot accept responsibility for delays to training arising from weather, student ability, maintenance, force majeure, or any other situations beyond EFT's control. If additional training hours are required, these will be charged at EFT's standard published rates, as advertised on this web site. The student will be responsible for any delays arising from his/her absence from scheduled flight lessons or groundschool lessons. The student is considered to have graduated upon completion of all certificates, ratings and flight hours required.

No-show policy. All flights will be scheduled by the instructor. It is the student's responsibility to check the schedule every day or call the office to check for the following day. The student is expected to be available and prepared 30 minutes prior to any scheduled flight. Failure of the student to do so or cancel within 24 hours may result in the student being charged for the flight at the standard training rate multiplied by 1.5.

Termination by the student. The student may withdraw from the training programme at any time for any reason, provided he notifies EFT in writing. If the student voluntarily disenrolls from his course or courses, all applicable securities, deposits, and examiner expenses paid will be forfeited. Student will additionally forfeit 30% of the non completed enrolled courses. Fast Track to CPL and APP candidates will forfeit 10% of the total course cost. Hour building pacakges are non-refundable. All flight hours completed will also be charged at the walk in rate rather than the package prices listed on the EFT website.

Compulsory Disenrollment. EFT reserves the right to disenroll a student with immediate effect. Deposits, exam fees and 30% of course cost will be forefeitted. Hour Building packages are non-refundable.

Course deposit. Upon receiving your application, we will review your application and then send you a confirmation e-mail. We will request from you a non refundable course deposit in the amount of $500, or $1000 for the FI course and a non-refundable $2,500 for the Fast Track to CPL and APP via wire transfer or credit card. The deposit will enable us to confirm a course start date for you and reserve that specific date for you. Without this deposit, we will be unable to further process your application. The credit/debit card used for this deposit will be held on file for the duration of your training, and may be used if you ever have a negative balance with EFT. If you need to change the date of your arrival more than 5 working days, you will forefit your deposit. If it falls outside the 30 days allowed by your visa you will need to re-apply and pay a new deposit.

Visa processing. As a student, you will require a M1 or J1 visa if you intend to train at our USA base. We will send you all necessary information and documentation. The visa process takes approximately two weeks to 4 months, but this depends on the embassy involved. EFT cannot be held responsible for any delays or changes in US Immigration policy regarding student/exchange visas. After you have received your visa, inform EFT of your flight and travel details, and request an airport pickup if required. We require a minimum of two weeks notice of your arrival to ensure instructor availability. You may need to provide proof of your ability to speak English if your first language is not English.

TSA Clearance TSA Clearance. If you are undertaking flight training falling under the following catorgries you will require TSA Clearance;

  • Initial Flight Training i.e PPL
  • Multi Engine Training
  • Instrument Training

  • No flight training may be undertaken for the above courses until you have received final clearance. Your enrollment letter will include details on how to apply for TSA. EFT cannot be held responsible for any delays to your training resulting from TSA clearance issues.

Foreign Licence Verifcation Students who intend to hour build or fly solo who all ready hold an ICAO licence must have their ICAO licence verified. EFT will advise on how to complete this process in your welcoming letter. We cannot be held responsible for any delays in the verification process or any subsequent delays to your training, due to verification delays at the appropriate civil aviation authority. If you intend to take an FAA licence/rating then you must hold a current verification letter at the time of the checkride. These letters from the FAA are only currently valid for 60 days.

Medical fitness. A current UK JAA medical is required in order to train for any course at EFT. If you intend to train at our USA facility and fly solo (necessary for Private Pilot's Licence, PPL, and Night Qualification) you will also require an FAA medical. To arrange for your FAA or JAA medical, contact the UK CAA or the Civil Aviation Authority in your country. EFT can also arrange for your FAA medical to be taken at our USA base, at a cost of approximately $100. EFT students may be tested for the use of drugs and/or alcohol at any stage during their training.

Additional Charges to Expect . Flight tests carried out by EFT's in-house examiners are charged at $400. Flight tests carried out by CAA examiners are charged at the CAA's current rate which can be found at www.caa.co.uk/schemeofcharges and are payable to the CAA. EFT will arrange for CPL students to pay this fee, a credit or debit card is advised as a personal cheque may delay your testing with the CAA examiner. Written exams for the PPL/Multi are $30 each. When flying at EFT, you will be expected to maintain the aircraft in a tid condition, failure to do so may result in a $25 fine, and failure to complete our online autorisation log correctly will result in a $10 administration fee.

Payment schedule. The course deposit (see above) will be maintained as a security deposit throughout your training - you must provide a valid Credit/Debit Card when applying online, which is kept on our secure servers. If you decide against pre-paying for your course, the deposit will also guard you against inadvertently flying into a "negative balance" and assure your training continuity. A minimum balance of $500 must be maintained throghout your enrolment period at EFT, and EFT will may, at its discretion, discontinue your flight or ground training if your deposit falls below this amount. In any case, we will not allow continuation of training if your balance should reach zero. Any positive balance, i.e. additional unspent funds, on account at EFT for more than a year from your last date of training will be forfeited. Exam fees are paid up front. Hour Building Packages are paid up front and are non-refundable

Training beyond and in addition to the course schedule (also referred to as the "approved syllabus") will be charged at the standard rates published on this web site, and not at a theoretical calculated discounted course rate (which would be obtained by dividing a discounted course package price by the flying hours it contains). In no event shall additional, out-of-syllabus training required for a licence issue, be free of charge. EFT does not guarantee a flight test pass, ground examination pass, or any passes in a particular time.

Forms of payment accepted by EFT are: Wire transfer, traveller's cheques, banker's draft and cashier's cheque. Personal cheques are also accepted but must clear prior to being credited to your account. We also accept Visa/Mastercard however, card payments over $10,000 are subject to a 3% surcharge.

EFT may increase course prices without prior notice by a maximum of 5 per cent in the event of unforeseeable fuel price increases. All training at EFT USA is to be paid in US-Dollars.

Housing agreement. Where applicable, EFT USA agrees to provide student housing of a shared, own bedroom occupancy nature. The housing shall be charged at the published rate, and a housing deposit of $250 is payable upon arrival at EFT and shall be held until the premises have been vacated and inspected for damages. All keys must be returned when vacating the premises, and lost keys shall be charged at $100. The housing shall be supplied for the duration of the course and final flight test, and the student may request to extend the housing agreement after the final test if EFT has extended availability. If there is no extended availability, students shall vacate the housing upon completion of the flight test or disenrollment from EFT. The house shall be kept in a livable, tidy condition, and if at any time breakage or damage occurs, the student will inform a member of EFT staff at once. The damage will then be inspected, and if deemed at fault, the student will be required to pay for any repairs or replacements. This charge will be deducted from the housing deposit.

Water, electricity, local telephone and basic cable television service is included in the housing charges. If a gross excess usage of these utilities occurs, EFT will, at its discretion, charge the student that amount it considers to be excessive. This charge will be paid from the housing deposit. Telephone long-distance and international charges are the responsibility of the student.

If a student has a concern regarding the condition of the housing upon arrival, or it is not found to be in sound and tidy condition, EFT must be informed immediately. We will strive to correct any concerns within 48 hours. "Swapping" between houses is not permitted, and you are required to stay in your assigned accommodation until your flight test is passed or you are disenrolled from the course. Students are committed to remain in EFT accommodation while the ETA is in effect. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of the deposit and up to 15% additional to course fees.

Incompliance with any terms of the EFT Training Agreement may, at EFT's discretion, result in forfeiture of deposits, or disenrollment from the facility.

After your training After you have sucesfully completed your course and achieved your licence/rating, you will need to finish up your paperwork by disenrolling with an EFT member of staff. We may also release your email address and / or contact details to other students / future students. Failure to disenroll will result in a delay to any refund due, and a loss of course depsoit.
