Equipment

As a student pilot, you will need various types of equipment which are essential throughout your flying career.

Vital items include:

A wristwatch – with sweeping hands (helps with time appreciation)
A headset (we recommend David Clark, Peltor, Sennheiser, Bose)
A kneeboard with clip to hold charts, approach plates, notepads
Aviation charts and approach plates relevant to your course
Books and reference materials relevant to your course
A fuel sampler (GATS type required at USA base)
A fuel dip stick (calibrated for your aircraft depending on course)
Pens and chart markers
Professional manual flight computer (we recommend Pooley’s CRP5)
Protractor and nautical-mile calibrated ruler
A torch/flashlight for night flying

Additional items you may consider:

A handheld transceiver (we recommend Icom or Vertex Standard)
A portable GPS receiver (use not permitted during training or testing)

 

Housing Items:
In accordance with http://www.flyeft.com/accommodation/ we cannot provide sheets, towels etc – you will need to provide your own.  If you request a pick up we will take you via Walmart where you can purchase these yourself, sheets are circa $20, pillows $4, towels $2.

These items are available from a variety of pilot equipment suppliers. If you are training at our USA base, we recommend that you do not buy them in Europe, since equipment is less expensive in the USA. For suppliers, browse a general aviation magazine or the Internet.

Uniform

By training with EFT, you are becoming part of a professional training environment in every respect. This necessitates a strict dress code, and you will be required to wear a uniform at all times whilst at school and during flights. EFT’s uniform consists of black shoes and trousers with belt, and a white pilot shirt with epaulette holders. Short sleeves are worn at our USA base, and long sleeves and tie at our European base (except in summer).

To complete their uniform, students will be awarded stripes according to course in accordance with the following system once passed your relevant JAA test:

PPL student one silver stripe
CPL student two silver stripes
IR student three silver stripes
FI student & above four silver stripes
