FACILITIES

European Flight Training, and Aviator College of Aeronautical Science & Technology, have worked together for more than 12 years. The companies have enjoyed tremendous success gaining the reputation for delivering high quality training to a worldwide market place for both FAA and JAA licences.

In 2010, a further major step forward was taken with a considerable investment in a 14 acre ‘State of the Art’ training campus which must rank as one of the very best the industry has to offer.

In addition to outstanding high tech classrooms and a first class learning environment, customers can enjoy on site convenient housing and recreational facilities such as tennis courts and a swimming pool.

The dedicated suite for instructor training is comprehensively equipped with modern teaching aids, computers, overhead projectors, sectional instruments and will be seen as the very best the industry has to offer.

FI(R) – Flying Instructor (Restricted)

The course of training comprises 30 hours of flying (of which up to five may be mutual with another student) and 125 hours of ground school. Up to 15 hours of pre-course study may be included in the 125 hours of ground school, and is encouraged. The balance of the ground school will be undertaken in conjunction with the flying training affording the maximum overall benefit and learning experience.

Classes will run daily and include tuition by our highly experienced team of instructors; supervised and personal classroom practice with fellow student instructors and students undertaking PPL training at the College; and dedicated private study which will be directed by staff and targeted toward the essential core learning objectives and academic subjects in preparation for the end of course flight test.

The full-time course will run 5 days per week over 4 weeks with an additional 1 week recommended for consolidation and final preparation for the actual test, which would normally take a full day.

Pre- Course Requirements

Before starting an approved course of training for an FI(R) rating, you must have:-

1) Completed at least 200 hours of flight time of which not less than 100 hours to be as pilot in command (PIC) if holding an ATPL(A) or a CPL(A), or if holding a PPL(A) 150 hours PIC.

2) Meet the knowledge requirements for a CPL(A) as set out in AMC FCL 1.470(b)

3) Completed at least 30 hours on single engine piston powered aeroplanes of which at least 5 must have been completed in the six months preceding the pre-entry flight test (see below).

4) Received at least 10 hours of instrument flying instruction of which not more than 5 may be instrument ground time in a flight simulator or FNPT II.

5) Completed at least 20 hours of cross-country flight as PIC including a flight totalling not less than 540 km (300 nm) in the course of which full stop landings at two aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure must have been made.

6) Passed a specific pre-entry flight test with an FI qualified in accordance with JAR-FCL for this purpose, based on the proficiency check set out in Appendix 3 to JAR-FCL 1.240 within six months preceding the start of the course.

Please Note

The flight test will assess your ability to undertake the course. It is recommended that the test is taken with us a couple of days prior to your intended start date.

Skill Test

At the end of the course a skill test will be taken with a Flight Instructor Examiner (FIE) which needs to be passed, naturally, to be issued with the rating. The test comprises of different sections which when added together give applicants a very good opportunity to demonstrate their ability to teach both academic subjects and the essential skills for flight.

The test will normally last most of the day, so unlike those often dreaded LST’s, it is geared in such a way to allow you give a very broad, thorough and positive impression of yourself and your abilities! You will be assessed in several different ways; your aviation knowledge; your teaching ability and your basic flying skill. As you will learn on the course, a mistake in skill made by an instructor (which is quite common!) can be turned into a clear and beneficial teaching point for the student – the hallmark of an excellent instructor!

Our FIC Manger is an experienced FIE and will ensure your chances of test success will be assured provided you put in the work and graduate the course by meeting the expected standard.

What Comes After?

Well hopefully, a flying instructor job!

As a major flying school & college we are always on the lookout for good instructors, so provided you are exceptional, we would want to hire you subject to certain immigration formalities unless you already have the right to work in the USA.

We can also assure you that with our reputation of delivering exceptional quality you will more than likely be able to obtain employment in your home country when vacancies arise. Just as in any profession, you have to compete with everybody else to get hired, so if you are well trained, good at what you do, enthusiastic and can sell yourself to a potential employer, they will want you to – just ask our past graduates!
